To: The United States House of Representatives and The United States Senate

Members of Congress should take no oaths of allegiance that conflict with their oath of office.

US Senators and Members of the House of Representatives should be prohibited from taking oaths of allegiance to any private organization or individual on matters of public policy that are in conflict with their oaths of office and the judicious consideration of the full array of public policy options to be considered in the process of governance of the American Republic.

Why is this important?

Large numbers of members of Congress, mostly Republicans but not exclusively so, take an oath to Grover Norquist and his Americans for Tax Reform that conflicts with a major part of the array of tools that are necessary to be considered in the governance of our country. While it is perfectly proper to be against increasing taxes, it is another thing to completely eliminate that alternative by a sworn oath to a private organization when representing the American people in attempting to solve our country's problems.
