Mets Fans Declare - R.A.Dickey Must Wind Up Here
Dear Sandy:
We appreciate that you are thinking about maximizing the value of R.A. Dickey to the Mets.
We could argue from a statistical angle why we think the Mets are better off with R.A. than with 1 or 2 very good bats in the outfield or elsewhere. But many of us believe, as the 1973 Mets showed, that it's Pitching, Pitching, Pitching.
But let's get away from the metrics of the game and talk about the intangibles of R.A. Dickey. R.A. fills seats not just because of his pitching prowess (and that prowess is so much fun to behold) but because we love the man. How often is the Sports world, much less baseball, blessed with such a gift? A man untainted from PEDs, who doesn't pretend to have been a Saint, who is humble, modest, gracious, and yet a fierce competitor?
So many of us Mets fans forgot about the disappointing 2012 season and rejoiced in the Mets success when R.A. was on the mound. The team seemed better when he was there. Certainly, we all felt better.
Brooklyn Dodger fans had a deep emotional connection to their team that transcended baseball stats. R.A.'s personal journey, and his decency, and his love of the game, and his attitude transcend baseball. And our connection to him is something beyond baseball. How could we part with a man like this? Please don't rob us of him, the way L.A. robbed Brooklyn of their Dodgers.
Thank you!

Why is this important?
The Title of R.A. Dickey's book is "Wherever I Wind Up". We want him to wind up with the NY Mets for a very long time.
We will deliver this petition to Sandy Alderson.
