At least 31 Republican members of Congress have signed a letter to House and Senate leaders demanding changes in the GOP tax bill to protect tuition waivers for graduate students. But Mike Bishop from Michigan's 8th District is not one of them!
The repeal of this waiver would force graduate students at Michigan State University and other institutions to pay taxes on their tuition waiver, something they simply cannot afford.
As the Republicans' leader says, "A tax on graduate tuition waivers would be unfair, would undermine our competitive position, and would inhibit the economic growth that tax reform promises."
