Military Veterans against assault weapons

Military veterans against the civilian ownership of assault weapons and high capacity magazines. These weapons should only be possessed by the military and law enforcement.

Why is this important?

I retired from the US Navy after twenty six years of service and believe military veterans like myself should weigh in on the movement to ban assault weapons and high capacity magzines based on our knowledge and experience using these weapons. There is no logical reason for civilians to own these weapons for hunting or some deluded sense of "home protection". There are plenty of hunting rifles, shotguns and handguns to fill that role. Trained military professionals and law enforcement should be the only legitimate users and owners of these weapons, which I consider to be weapons of mass destruction.
