To: Chris Abele, MILWAUKEE COUNTY EXECUTIVE and David A. Clark, Jr., Milwaukee County Sheriff

Milwaukee County Needs A Sheriff, Not A Celebrity

Today (3/6/13), David Clarke was running for Mayor, maybe Governor or Senator, on News/Talk 1130 WISN AM radio. He was taking calls and taking jabs at Milwaukee politicians whose politics he disagrees with. He was mocking elected officials that choose not to praise the National Rifle Association's movement to scare every citizen into owning a firearm. At one point - no, several points - he actually said the purpose of the Second Amendment is to allow Americans to defend themselves against a tyrannical government.

Now ask yourself, do you think our Milwaukee County Sheriff belongs engaged in this type of self-serving behavior? And was Sheriff David Clarke being paid as Sheriff for his time behind the mic at Clear Channel Radio's Greenfield radio studios? If so, do the above actions speak to the duty of Milwaukee County's top law enforcement officer? I don't think so.

That is why I am asking Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke to resign his position as Sheriff and allow someone to take over the reigns. Someone who has only the safety of the county's residents as their top priority. Someone who will not spend their time auditioning for a job as local radio talk show host, or as a pundit on cable television news shows.

Should Sheriff Clarke refuse to resign I ask that Milwaukee County resident voters' voices be heard that he needs to be removed from his position.

Why is this important?

What was Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke doing today while several major accidents flared on the freeways, and illegal guns allegedly plagued the Milwaukee County streets by criminals? Was he knocking on doors, raiding drug houses, or even directing a new traffic safety program to deputies? No.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke was hosting the right-wing Mark Belling Late Afternoon Show on News/Talk 1130 WISN AM radio. For at least 3 hours - not counting any travel, prep and production time - Sheriff Clarke was not defending Milwaukee County residents from the gang-bangers he proposes run rampant across the county with illegal weapons. He was not putting into place any new regulations to guard drivers on the roadways his department is responsible for against wrong-way or drunk drivers.
