Minnesota Legislature, we need and expect you to pass a bill before the end of this Legislative Session to require large industrial farms to create buffer zones around our rivers, lakes and streams to protect them from farm runoff and harmful levels of nitrate pollution.
Why is this important?
As a Minnesota resident and a mother, I care about our state's many rivers, lakes and streams, especially as they supply our drinking water.
Recent reports stating that the levels of nitrates in Minnesota drinking water are elevated have me concerned for the health of my child and us all. Requiring buffer zones around rivers, lakes and streams in agricultural areas is just common sense and good stewardship of our lands and waters.
