More Tyrone Power Films on TCM
Dear Mr. Tabesh:
We the undersigned love and appreciate Turner Classic Movies. We understand that you do not own the films of 20th Century Fox.
However, we notice that you have honored Fox stars such as Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews, but the films of its major star, Tyrone Power, have been sadly lacking on your schedule. He was a star in Summer Under the Stars: Tyrone Power only once in the history of the franchise, which was on August 22, 2012.

According to the book, The Top 50 Movie Stars: Statistically Speaking by Bruce Cogerson, Tyrone Power is listed as the 21st greatest male star of all time on a list that includes Harrison Ford, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Hanks. And yet, many of your viewers are unfamiliar with his films.
We ask that you make an effort to include him at TCM in the Summer Under the Stars program or occasionally give him his own day to introduce him to new viewers and also because we as his fans miss seeing him on Turner Classic Movies.
To eliminate him skews the public’s perception of his importance during the classic era.

As loyal viewers, we are asking for his representation.
As a film historian, I am concerned that Turner Classic Movies is attempting to rewrite film history. Since they do not own the films of 20th Century Fox, they promote the stars and studios of the films they do own, giving the impression that Fox and its stars were less important.
In the book by Bruce Cogerson, The Top 50 Movie Stars: Statistically Speaking, using box office figures adjusted for inflation and awards, Tyrone Power is listed as the 21st biggest male star in film history. This list includes modern stars - Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, Leonardo DiCaprio etc.
Yet in TCM’s book, The Top 50 Leading Men of the Studio Era, Tyrone Power is eliminated. How is this possible? Yet actors whose films are owned by TCM are there who were less popular.
This may seem unimportant. Yet we live in a time where there is an aggressive effort to rewrite our country’s history and the contributions of some of our citizens. However, the legacy of talented individuals needs to be preserved.
