Move Waukegan Beyond Coal
For too long Midwest Generation's coal plant in Waukegan, Illinois has been polluting our community's air, water and land. Our community should not have to pay the health costs and live with your pollution while your profits and electricity go out of state.
We are asking that Edison Mission Energy and Midwest Generation establish a clear plan moving forward for the coal plant that includes a phase-out date. We also ask that you ensure a just transition of the work force and engage stakeholders in the conversation about future reuses of the site.

Why is this important?
The Waukegan coal plant is the largest emitter of sulfur dioxide, mercury and carbon dioxide pollution in all of Lake County, contributing to 34 premature deaths and 570 asthma attacks every year. Midwest Generation sells the power it produces on the open market out of state and Lake County residents are left with the pollution and health costs. It's time to move Waukegan beyond coal and create new opportunities for cleaner, healthier businesses in the community.
