Each Thanksgiving the President pardons a turkey. But thousands languish in prison, victims of harsh drug laws and excessive length of sentences. Others carry felony convictions from 20 years ago that are barriers to success. It is time to show mercy. We do not want you to risk public safety, but we want you to be generous during the coming holidays and holy days. Grant clemency to petitioners.
Why is this important?
The President and our governors turn their backs on men and women in prison. It used to be that thousands of clemency petitions were granted in a year. In the past four years the President has granted only 22 -- but he's pardoned eight turkeys.
