To: President Donald Trump

Mr. President: Stand Your Ground

Mr. President: you ran on eliminating Bush tax cuts for the rich, and not cutting back the safety net. The vast majority of the electorate, including Republicans, agree with this. However, many Democrats are already concerned that you will cave in to Congressional Republicans as you did in your first term - extend the tax cuts for the rich - or sell out to the so called moderate Third Way - gut Social Security and Medicare. Caving in last term led to such disillusionment that the base of your party did not vote in 2010. That did not work out too well, leading to election of intransigent tea partiers, who plague us to this day.

Now there is a "mandate" to stand tough. Call the Republican's bluff, play chicken. If we do go over "fiscal cliff" so be it. It is really only a curb.

Caving again will stain your legacy, ruin our economy for many years to come, and irreparably anger the Democratic base as well as the majority of the public

Why is this important?

The majority of the electorate has given the President a mandate to eliminate tax cuts for the rich and not cut entitlements. The deficit cannot be cut without more revenue. Austerity alone will not work. He must not cave to Congressional Republicans or sell out to the Third Way.
