Stop the Department of Labor and its proposed Rule Change regarding who owns a tip. If implemented this fundamental shift in pay practices will allow restaurants to own all servers' tips to "pool" them together with the rest of the tips from a shift then divvy them out to anyone and everyone that works in the restaurant, including themselves. This rule change if implemented would completely devastate the lives of thousands and thousands of our most vulnerable citizens, the majority women with children. Help us say NO WAY!!
Why is this important?
Not only would this proposed change fundamentally shift the tradition and purpose of tipping in our country, it would be the equivalent of stealing from society's most vulnerable to address their shortcomings in paying the untipped kitchen staff. For me, in my best estimates, this would be on average a 23% pay cut. The DOL should NOT change current regulations regarding servers tips!!
