National Emergencies Act Fight Back

The National Emergencies Act of 1976 was enacted to hold a President accountable to Congress for actions taken by that President during a State of Emergency. Please sign this non-partisan petition to Congress to strengthen the National Emergencies Act, ensure accountability and protection for those facing life-threatening National Emergencies, and defend fundamental principles of our Constitution and Democracy.

Why is this important?

The Constitution ensures checks and balances between different branches of government, these guard against abuses of power. My kids learned that as early as first grade, and as an elected official in my hometown I took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution. Emergencies such as wildfires, floods, and hurricanes have left millions of Americans homeless and destitute, resources and attention need to be focused on these emergencies and on the protections afforded everyone under our Constitution and Democracy.
