With the U.S. government in a state of paralysis, it's time to energize our democracy by putting power directly into the hands of the populace via allowing a national referendum on key decisions. When it comes to certain national questions such as taxing the super rich, immigration, abortion, etc., put the vote to the country as a whole and let the majority vote (rather than special interests) decide the issue.
Why is this important?
The United States is in danger of becoming an oligarchy, ruled by powerful, controlling interests, rather than a true democracy. The Occupy Movement was a collective expression of concern over this trend. But it lacked focus and direction. This petition is intended to provide a central platform that can galvanize the country as a whole into action.
