Constitutional amendments appeared on the 2010 ballot in 37 states. One hundred sixty-five amendments appeared on State ballots, 116 were approved. Four states held referendums in 2010: Iowa, which requires a referendum every 10 years; Michigan, which requires a referendum every 16 years; and Montana and Maryland, which require a convention referendum every 20 years.
Currently, Americans do not have the right to vote in a National Referendum. Egypt, Iceland, New Zealand and Ireland have held National Referendums recently. It's time Americans enjoyed the same rights to direct democracy as other people around the world. Please establish a process for a National Referendum now.
Why is this important?
Should Americans have the right to a direct vote in a National Referendum on matters of national concern such as:
Amending the Constitution
Recalls of officials
Overturning laws and/or treaties
