Natural Gas Can Power Our Fleet

We have a surplus of natural gas in the US and the prices are very low. In many countries you can convert a car or truck to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) for a reasonable price and still have a vehicle that is capable of running on gasoline. In Bangladesh for example the cost of conversion is $1,500 and fuel cost is reduced by 75%.

In the USA the cost of conversion is $12,000. Why? An elaborate system of licensing fees has been set up as a barrier for any business to convert vehicles to run on either fuel. The license fee to set up to convert 20 car nameplates over a five year model span is $1,000,000.

President Obama, we call upon you to remove these artificial market barriers to allow for Americans to choose a fuel that is cheaper, better for the environment and produced here. We invite you to do the American people a favor and lower gas prices, reduce oil imports, create jobs and promote free enterprise.

The good news is that the Republicans will support removing these onerous barriers. (At least if they are consistent with their rhetoric) And if they don't you can call their bluff.
