New Mexico legislature passed a 3% salary increase for all school transportation employees effective 7/1/2014. The Public Education Department determined that employee's of contractors were not eligible contrary to the actual language in the legislation (SB-313, page 192) and intent of the legislators who fought to get this through.
Why is this important?
Many New Mexico school bus drivers work for companies that contract with school districts throughout the state. This past year, our Senate passed SB-313 which appropriated funding for all (school) transportation employee's to receive a 3% salary increase (on average). This can be found on page 192, which specifically addresses employee's of contracting companies. I along with over 200 school bus drivers and support staff, (many more throughout the state) have not received any salary increase.
