Don’t approve Nexstar’s unethical $6 billion merger!
%20(39).png)
Nexstar owns 32 ABC affiliates and is currently in talks to buy one of its competitors, Tegna, which in turn owns 13 ABC affiliate stations. In total, the merger would lead to Nexstar controlling 265 stations in 44 states and Washington D.C. In other words, their presence would expand to cover 80% of American households.
This is a major consolidation of power that would likely push Nexstar well over the national broadcast-ownership cap set by the FCC, which limits coverage at 39%.
No more media monopolies! We all lose when our media and local news stations are controlled by just a powerful few. And we deserve better than a consolidation of power by greedy executives more interested in their bottom line than defending our freedom of press and speech.

Why is this important?
Nexstar’s major merger with Tegna has been in the works for a while—but it’s getting more attention and heat following their meddling with “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”
Jimmy Kimmel was temporarily taken off the air by ABC after his televised commentary on the Trump administration and Republicans' exploitation of Charlie Kirk’s murder.
The decision came after the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Brendan Carr announced that local ABC stations should “push back” and “pre-empt” coverage that does not serve “their local communities.”
And now, it’s become clear that Nexstar, in trying to protect its $6 billion merger, put pressure on ABC and Disney in order to align itself with the Trump administration and appease the FCC. Sinclair, the other major broadcasting company that is doubling down on keeping Kimmel off air, had previously tried to acquire Tegna, and has its own acquisitions up for FCC review.
This deal has corporate corruption and government overreach written all over it—and everyday Americans are going to pay the price. We have to expose this shady business deal before Nexstar and other major companies control our media and become proxy propaganda outlets for Trump and his cronies.
ABC’s decision to pull Kimmel off the air was a direct result of corporate corruption. Tell the FCC NOT to approve this merger.
