No Change to Soccial Security and Medicare Age
People may live Longer, they cant work longer! 60% unemployment at age 60, can you imagine wht it is at age 65 or 70!
Why is this important?
Most Americans retire by age 62 and with early Soc Sec beneifts. Why because they cant work longer due to physical and also mental changes that have a great deal of effect on employement in a rapidly changing High tech world.
And Medciare helathcare cost are lower than for proft private helathcare, so rasing Medicare age increases helathcare costs overall.
I have advanced degrees in Chemistry, and also I'm a retired CPA. Yet by age 60 I was hit with neuro surgeries, worn out knees from sports and years of working 70 hour weeks w/o vacation in my own companies. When we had to close down our business after an illness, unemployement for those over 60 was 60%. Living longer on pills, pace makers and etc., does not mean people can work longer and there are simply not enough Wal-Mart greeter jobs! Getting rehired even after age 50 is difficult.
Deficit reduction should be about things that add to the deficits, which neither Soc Sec nor Medicare do. They are funded by their own P/R taxes and by law cant add to the deficits Changes should be made at the P/R tax area as Reagan did..
