NO mining on Indian sacred lands!
REPEAL a fine-print rider to the $585 billion National Defense Authorization Act of 2015, a rider that "traded away the Apache holy land added at the last minute to the must-pass military spending bill, the National Defense Authorization Act. By doing this, Congress has handed over a sacred Native American site to a foreign-owned (an Australian-British mining concern) company..."
Why is this important?
A piece of ground known as Oak Flats just a little east of Phoenix, close to the town of Superior, Arizona has been a spiritual sanctuary for the Apache tribe for several centuries. However, underneath this sacred land is - to some - some of the most valuable copper in North America, if not the world. And so, in February, the U.S. Senate allowed that sacred land to be traded to a foreign company for mining rights.
