No Nepotism in Chicago's 49th Ward
Dear Mayor Emanuel, News reports and general neighborhood discussion inform us that our current 49th Ward Alderman, Joe Moore, is soon to be given a job in Springfield. Mr. Moore is lobbying to have his wife be handed his Aldermanic seat. This would be wrong. We are opposed to hereditary succession. As Mayor, you will be called upon to appoint an Alderman for the 49th Ward. Please do not appoint a family member—or a place holder for a family member—of the current Alderman. Thank you.
Why is this important?
If you believe that government officials should earn their right to represent you through the standard electoral process, and should not be allowed the opportunity to slide into their positions through family connections (AKA nepotism), you'll want to sign this petition, which will be sent to Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
