No one is above the law
Bianca Contreras hit and killed 39-year-old Scott Coxall, she was doing 60 mph in a 30 mph zone. Contreras was driving without a license, in a vehicle she didn’t have the clearance to be driving, in a country she wasn’t allowed to be in.
Contreras was taken into custody, but then released after paying $50,000 bail in cash. She was quickly taken back into custody for immigration violation, but now an immigration judge is allowing Contreras to voluntarily deport herself. The district attorney and the Department of Homeland Security are appealing the decision, but unless a criminal court is willing on Monday to hold Contreras without bond, the federal government’s hands are tied.

Why is this important?
Make sure everyone who commits a crime is afforded a trial! Just because you are not in this country legally does not mean you get to commit any crime you want, then when caught just deport yourself and avoid prosecution.
