No pay for Congress during government shutdown

Stop holding the country hostage to unreasonable budget demands. Congress should be willing to suffer the same consequences they are asking many American citizens to suffer.

Why is this important?

As Americans, we should all be concerned about the health and well-being of the children and elderly in this country. Holding up funding for the food stamp program for women and children is a disgrace. Some radicals in Congress seem to think women and children can go without food. Well, then those Congressmen and Congresswomen, and their families, should go without a paycheck.

In addition, there are children in this country who have serious illnesses and are being denied the opportunity to participate in clinical trials that might save their lives. How can we credibly criticize Syria for gassing innocent citizens, including children, when we are taking political and economic actions in this country that may have dire, perhaps even life or death consequences for some of our most vulnerable citizens?

Some of our legislators are completely out of touch with the majority of American people. Let them feel the pinch of their irresponsible actions, too. The Affordable Care Act is a legitimate law--passed according to rules laid out in the Constitution of the United States--and supported by the Supreme Court. This lawful act is not a legitimate topic for budget negotiations.

I am tired of a very small group of radical, ideological Tea Party members ruining our country. I confidently predict they will be voted out of office in the next election. Until then, they ought to forfeit their income as long as they act to keep the government shut down.
