In recent weeks, large piles of petroleum coke from the Marathon Refinery have been stockpiled on the banks of the Detroit River. Petroleum coke emits 5-10% more carbon dioxide than coal when burned. These piles are in the open air and may blow away or get caught in runoff when it rains, going directly into the river.
Why is this important?
Stop stockpiling petroleum coke on the banks of the Detroit River!
