No Revenue? No Deal.
Dear Senator Baucus,
Thank you for voicing your support for a balanced approach to deficit reduction. We agree with your statement that-
“Putting the full load of deficit reduction on seniors, veterans and middle class families…when the wealthiest can afford to pay a little more, simply doesn’t make sense… it does make sense to allow these lower tax rates for the wealthiest in our society to expire, rather than making major cuts to Social Security or Medicare”.
As your conversations in Washington continue, we encourage you to:
•Match every dollar in cuts with at least a dollar in new revenue. Congress and the President have already agreed to almost $1 trillion in cuts over the next ten years. A continued cuts-only approach to deficit reduction will harm Montana's families and hinder our economic growth.
•Avoid increasing poverty or inequality. Protecting programs like SNAP, the Earned Income Tax Credit, and Supplemental Security Income will continue to help millions of Americans and Montanans make ends meet.
•Continue your support for a balanced approach that includes new revenue. We say, "No Revenue? No Deal." There are policy choices available that will reduce the deficit without causing harm to Montana’s families. Please do not agree to a deal that does not include significant revenue as part of the deficit reduction package.
Thank you for protecting Montana's families and communities.
