NO TO LYNWOOD UNIFIED SCHOOL CLOSURES

Photo by note thanun on Unsplash
We oppose Lynwood Unified School District closures and urge you to vote against them. Closing school will have a negative impact on students, families, and community. It has increased student stress, potential for academic decline, safety concerns, due to longer commutes, harms local economies, and reduces community cohesion. The school district is not properly engaging the community and is providing misleading information.

Why is this important?

They made the community believe that passing Measure U would benefit many of our open local schools. The studies were made and projected with the same number of students. However, now they claim they have recommended to close three to four schools (Rosa Parks, Lugo, Wilson and Hosler M.s) The consultants review was made with the same student numbers. State would need to do an audit to see where AND how many schools  actually get yearly maintenance with the current measures funds approved by the tax payers’ funds.

This was their 2024 to the community letter after passing measure U,cc prop.2

Dear Lynwood Unified Community,

As we conclude the 2024 General Election and witness the results, I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your overwhelming support of Measure U. Your commitment to our students, schools and community demonstrates the strength of our shared vision for a brighter future in Lynwood.

With the passage of this $80 million facilities bond – as well as state Proposition 2, which may potentially boost our funding to over $200 million – we will be able to move forward with essential facility upgrades and improvements across our District. These funds will ensure that our schools provide safe, modern and inspiring environments that match the high standards of education we strive to deliver. Our projects will include enhancing security systems, upgrading classrooms and technology, improving athletic facilities, and making critical repairs to aging infrastructure. This investment in our schools will support current and future generations of students as they pursue their educational and career goals.

I want to emphasize our District’s commitment to transparency and accountability as we implement these projects. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress and sharing the milestones we achieve together. Thank you for your unwavering dedication to our students and for making this vital investment in our community's future.

Together, we are building a legacy of success in Lynwood.

With gratitude,

Gudiel R. Crosthwaite, Ph.D.,
Superintendent

As part of these recommendations, the Committee has proposed:

Relocating Hosler Middle School students to the Bullis Campus once the new Lynwood High School Imperial Campus reopens in Fall 2027.
Possible consolidation of Lugo, Wilson, and Rosa Parks Elementary Schools beginning in Fall 2026 due to low enrollment and rising operating costs.
These are recommendations only—no final decisions have been made. The Board of Education will review the Committee’s full report in November, with a final decision expected in December.
