Not Another Methadone Clinic

The Pimlico Merchants Association, Community Associations, faith-based churches, businesses and stakeholders are writing to express our concern about recent discussions, and pending decisions to locate a methadone clinic in the 5200 block of Park Heights Avenue. The facility is owned by Moshe Marcowitz, and operated by the BD Healthcare Services. This action represents a blatant disrespect and disregard for the safety and general well-being of our people, and for our community as a whole. We need you and your colleagues to use your influence to stop this project, because we care deeply for Baltimore City, and Park Heights, which is where many of us have lived our total lifetimes.
The mission of our culture is to build our community with neighborhood associations, community stakeholders, business, schools, churches, synagogues and mosques with a better quality of life.
We understand that the decision being considered is to serve people from the city and surrounding counties, who are suffering from heroin addiction. This is not acceptable in our community. 1) Our community already has 10-15 facilities in place to serve this population; and 2) most importantly, the intent is to build this clinic adjacent to the ABC Child Development Center, The Day Spring Center, and churches. We vehemently protest and hereby state our disapproval. I am sure that you would agree and join us to block this decision. Thank you in advance for your consideration of this matter and we look forward to your prompt response.

Why is this important?

We do not want this facility in our neighborhood or any other additional facilities of this kind. We want you to know that we will stand in opposition, with the area businesses, faith-based and community organizations. Our neighborhood is already ridden with crime, and plagued with despair and hopelessness. A facility of this type will only add to the negativity we are trying to combat and will put the safety of our children, families, neighbors, businesses, and worshipers at risk.
