VP Pence has extremist, intolerant views. His abysmal record and words on women's rights, LGBT rights, immigrants, and other minorities are at odds with Notre Dame's values and character. Giving him such a storied public forum reflects poorly on the University's reputation, conveys a bad message to graduates, and puts alumni support at risk.

Why is this important?
An alumnus who supports the separation of church and state and is concerned about the "optics" of having the President or VP be the commencement speaker at a faith- based school. Example: Trump at Liberty University last weekend.
