Re: Birth of a Republican

Dear Governor Brownback,

I admit it, you got me. When you signed the Health Care Rights of Conscience Act into Kansas law allowing pharmacists and doctors to deny women birth control based on religious or moral grounds, I reacted just the way you wanted me to. With fiery indignation!

I decided to call my local pharmacist and ask, "Are you legally obligated to provide certain drugs?" What I discovered is that pharmacies have the right to stock whichever drugs they want, so long as they are listed in the United States pharmacopoeia and other standard medical works of recognized utility.

But if there never was a legal obligation to provide women contraception, why did there need to be a law saying that pharmacists had the right not to?

I imagine it's similar to the reason why you signed SB79, otherwise known as the “Anti-Sharia” bill, into law. It's not that there's an epidemic of Sharia or condoned stoning superseding the Kansas judiciary system, it's that you'd rather keep your citizens misdirected so that you can slide by legislation you know is corrupt and unethical.

Misdirection! You've used this tactic before, and it works. I fell for it! With the signing of the Health Care Rights of Conscience Act, I became so fixated on reproductive rights that for a moment I forgot it's the public education system, healthcare system, and the entire working class that are getting screwed.

I know you're busy reducing income taxes for corporate interests and raising taxes for mid- to low-income earners like myself, so I won't take up too much more of your time. I just wanted to let you know that it's been a painful decision to make, but I've decided to join the Republican Party.

While you misdirect the people of Kansas, I will redirect the radical stance of your party by becoming a republican and voting for moderates in your primaries. And what's more, I'm going to tell all my socially liberal, gay rights advocating friends to join too.

So to all my friends: Join the Republican Party here http://ow.ly/bbhJC. Pick your candidate at the primary.

Occupy the Republican Party, free Kansas!

All the best,

p.s. Since telling my friends of the idea, you have birthed three more Republicans!! Triplets!!! Congratulations!!

Why is this important?

Hey Kansan,

Do you feel like our state has become a testing ground for religious fundamentalists, racists, and the 1%? You are not alone.
But let’s face it, the Republicans are here to stay. So if we can’t beat them, let’s join them. Let’s Occupy the Kansas Republican Party! By registering as Republicans we can influence their platform, pull them away from the right, and vote for moderate (Lesser of two evils or less likely to win) candidates in their primary.
Of course we don’t have to vote for them on Election Day. We can still vote for any Democrat, Green, Libertarian, or Independent candidate of our choosing.
Take action today! By signing this signon.org petition you are signing a letter that will be sent to Governor Sam Brownback every time 1000 new signatures are submitted! By clicking this link you can register as a republican today! http://ow.ly/bbhJC Don’t delay, registration for the primary is scheduled to end on 7/21.
