The legislature should direct Covered California and MediCal and MediCare work together to offer a program to allow individuals to buy in to a Public Option in the next 2 years.
Why is this important?
As a primary care doctor working with the poor and uninsured, I get to see how broken our health care system is daily. The fractured, wasteful system has obvious negative effects on patients and caregivers. The answer is a single payer system. But since we don't have the political will to try that - lets add a public option into the health care exchange and pilot what that might look like for the future.
