OK County Jail Trust & Sheriff: Stop Collaborating with ICE
We call on the OK County Jail Trust and Sheriff PD Taylor to immediately remove the ICE agents that are continually on duty there, where they screen people at intake for citizenship and residency documents, identifying those who cannot produce documents and ultimately pipelining people into detention camps where they will be subjected to brutal treatment and denied due process.
We further demand that OK County refuse to collaborate in any way with ICE, now or in the future, including service contracts or collaborative agreements.
Why is this important?
ICE is a federal entity, operating in an unconstitutional manner and with cruelty as its motivating principle. It was created in haste after 9/11 without proper oversight and functions now with fear and cruelty as its motivating principles.
When local law enforcement gets involved with ICE, they no longer are serving the community, but abdicating authority to the federal government and becoming part of evil, inhumane practices. This is not how our communities are kept safe -- this is how we are told to live in fear and distrust our neighbors.
