OPPOSE BARRIER in Northfield Estates
As you may know, the issue of vehicular traffic in the Northfield Estates section of the Forest of Friendswood has been a topic of discussion for some time now, including (sometimes lengthy) discussions at every monthly board meeting since September 2012. A group of Northfield Estates residents attended the March 4, 2013 meeting of the City of Friendswood Council and exercised their right to petition government for redress of grievances by independently addressing council on the issue.
The street that allows cross traffic in the Forest of Friendswood from the Nortfield Estates section (Westward) has been open since before the first houses were completed in Northfield Estates. City council voted on March 4th to block this access off temporarily.
All politicians want to believe they are doing what is best for their community. Little is known about the long-term benefits of street closures, though one study reported that the benefits were only temporary. Even when closures have been found effective, streets have sometimes been reopened as a result of pressure from the local community. .
Unfortunately, only a relatively small number of projects involving street closures have been evaluated (for example, no published evaluations exist of substantial street-closure schemes in Dallas; Houston; Chicago; Bridgeport, Conn.; and Oakland, Calif.). Furthermore, not all research studies on street closures are well designed.
Please join some of the Northfield homeowners EFFORTS that want to keep The Forest together as a single neighborhood and OPPOSE this action.
YOUR VOICE CAN BE HEARD AT THIS SPECIAL MEETING.
IT IS SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY, MARCH 18th AT 6 PM. FRIENDSWOOD CITY HALL, COUNCIL CHAMBER, 910 S. FRIENDSWOOD DRIVE, FRIENDSWOOD, TEXAS
