Overrule Citizens United Decision

We, the undersiged registered voters of the State of Washington, demand that the Legislature of the State of Washington act immediately to request Congress to call a constituational convention to consider an amendament to the U. S. Constitution to overrule the Citizens United decision and remove the constitutional protection for unlimited spending by individuals and corporations that is preventing meaningful action by Congress and by state legislatures to address the urgent matters of severe unemployment, inadequate health care and the growing disparity between the incomes of the wealthiest 1% of our citizens ad the remaining 99%.

Why is this important?

Big spending on elections and lobbying is preventing meaningful action by Congress and state legislatures to address the urgent matters of severe unemployment, inadequate health care, and and an alarming and growing disparity between the incomes and standards of living of the wealthiest 1% of our citizens and the remaining 99%. Under the U.S. Supreme Court decision in the Citizens United case, spending by individuals and by corporations is constitutionally protected speechthat cannot be effectively limited by Congress and by state legislatures. Under Article V of the U.S. Constitution , at the request of legislatures of two-thirds of the states, Congress must call a constitutional convention to consider the need for constitutional amendment.
