OVERSIGHT OF ICE DETENTION FACILITY SPENDING
We, the undersigned constituents of Michigan's 7th Congressional District, call on Representative Tom Barrett to exercise his authority on the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management to demand full accountability for federal immigration detention spending.
The Facts:
ICE has purchased at least seven warehouses across five states at prices ranging from 33% to more than 300% above appraised market value. A Socorro, Texas warehouse appraised at $29 million was purchased for $122.8 million. A San Antonio property appraised at $37 million sold to ICE for $66 million. These facilities will cost billions annually to operate, before a single dollar of retrofitting.

We Are Calling on Representative Barrett to:
- Launch an independent audit of all ICE facility purchases that exceeded appraised market value
- Request a full Government Accountability Office review of detention spending
- Require public disclosure of contractor profits, renovation costs, and cost overruns
- Hold a town hall to share findings directly with constituents
Why is this important?
We are asking Representative Barrett to personally ensure these concerns are investigated, reported on, and answered publicly.
Taxpayers in Michigan's 7th District have some straightforward questions about federal immigration detention spending. We are still waiting for clear answers and we are requesting that Representative Tom Barrett help us get them.

Members of Representative Barrett's own party have called this spending fiscal mismanagement. His subcommittee assignment puts him in a direct position to demand independent appraisals, contractor disclosures, and a full Government Accountability Office review. We are not asking him to take a political position. We are asking him to do the job his committee role exists to do.
