Pardon of Innocence for Glen Edward Chapman

Grant Glen Edward Chapman a Pardon of Innocence on the grounds that he did not commit the crimes for which he was convicted, so that he may receive compensation from the State of North Carolina for his unjust and unlawful incarceration.

Why is this important?

Glen Edward Chapman was released from North Carolina's death row on April 2, 2008 after spending more than 15 years behind bars facing execution for two murders he did not commit. Since his release Edward has worked hard at a minimum wage job, but without a dime of compensation since his exoneration, Ed's financial situation remains very difficult. In order to receive monetary compensation from North Carolina, Ed must first receive a Pardon of Innocence from the Governor.

No one can give Ed back those years spent in prison or fully compensate him for what he lost. But this an opportunity to stand with a man who has been unjustly accused of crimes he did not commit; a chance for the State of North Carolina to redeem itself by doing the just thing; an occasion to rise up and require the government to take responsibility for robbing this man of his freedom: unable to attend his mother’s funeral; unable to attend his grandmother’s funeral; unable to watch his children grow up and unable to reunite with his community.
