Pass a Nationwide AI Data Center Moratorium
AI data centers are rapidly popping up across the country—putting a drain on our communities, environment, and local economies. Everyday Americans are taking on Big Tech one by one in cities and towns, but they're up against big money and corrupt interests.
We need a federal solution to rein in corporations, ensure proper oversight, and protect people and our natural resources.
We demand Congress pass the Artificial Intelligence Data Center Moratorium Act NOW!
Why is this important?
AI technology is advancing faster than community leaders and elected officials can keep up—meaning we don’t have the information, guardrails, and protections in place. Meanwhile, billionaires are getting richer from data centers that put a drain on local communities and force everyday people to foot the bill.
One study from Cornell found that at the current rate, in less than five years, AI could put 24 to 44 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. That’s the same as adding 5-10 million cars into our roads.
It also would guzzle up to 1,125 million cubic meters of water per year—equivalent to the usage of 6-10 million Americans.
If we continue to go down this dangerous, reckless path, our net-zero environmental goals will be pushed completely out of reach.
And who is footing the bill for all this environmental damage? We are. While corporations like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft rack in billions of dollars, families are paying higher bills—sometimes as much as 200% more—for electricity. And they are paying higher water bills while facing potential shortages.
Enough! We need commonsense solutions to protect Americans from corporate greed. The AI Data Center Moratorium Act of 2026 would implement safeguards to ensure:
- AI is safe and effective—ensuring it is not harming the environment working families.
- Workers actually benefit—not just Big Tech
- Consumers don’t foot the costs while billionaires rake in profits
Everyday people are already doing their part—100 communities have enacted moratoriums on data centers, and states are moving to do the same. But we need members of Congress to listen to constituents and implement a national solution. Sign the petition to demand Congress pass the Artificial Intelligence Data Center Moratorium Act.
