No AI Data Centers!
Artificial Intelligence data centers are rapidly expanding across the country—putting our environment and local economies in jeopardy.
The U.S. has more than 3,000 data centers—with 1,500 more proposed across the country. Roughly 38% of Americans live within five miles of a data center, and that number will only increase as more are built.
The negative environmental impact of data centers is well-documented. And it's everyday families that are paying the price—with electricity costs skyrocketing upwards of 200% in some communities. Not to mention water bills and water shortages that some cities are already facing.
Meanwhile, the wealthy are getting wealthier off our backs. More than a dozen Big Tech executives have become billionaires because of the rapid expansion of AI data centers. American families are struggling to afford the basics—rent, mortgage payments, electricity, food, school, and more—while the rich and powerful exploit our natural resources, invade our privacy, and drive up costs for the rest of us.
But everyday people are fighting back against the expansion of data centers. These efforts are being spearheaded by neighbors who want to defend their communities. And they are showing that when we fight, we can win. Join the movement by signing a petition or starting one of your own!

AnnapolisPass a Nationwide AI Data Center MoratoriumAI technology is advancing faster than community leaders and elected officials can keep up—meaning we don’t have the information, guardrails, and protections in place. Meanwhile, billionaires are getting richer from data centers that put a drain on local communities and force everyday people to foot the bill. One study from Cornell found that at the current rate, in less than five years, AI could put 24 to 44 million metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. That’s the same as adding 5-10 million cars into our roads. It also would guzzle up to 1,125 million cubic meters of water per year—equivalent to the usage of 6-10 million Americans. If we continue to go down this dangerous, reckless path, our net-zero environmental goals will be pushed completely out of reach. And who is footing the bill for all this environmental damage? We are. While corporations like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft rack in billions of dollars, families are paying higher bills—sometimes as much as 200% more—for electricity. And they are paying higher water bills while facing potential shortages. Enough! We need commonsense solutions to protect Americans from corporate greed. The AI Data Center Moratorium Act of 2026 would implement safeguards to ensure: • AI is safe and effective—ensuring it is not harming the environment working families. • Workers actually benefit—not just Big Tech • Consumers don’t foot the costs while billionaires rake in profits Everyday people are already doing their part—100 communities have enacted moratoriums on data centers, and states are moving to do the same. But we need members of Congress to listen to constituents and implement a national solution. Sign the petition to demand Congress pass the Artificial Intelligence Data Center Moratorium Act.1,634 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by MoveOn

No Hyperscale Data Centers or Data Center Campuses in DeKalb County! Background The growth of artificial intelligence (AI) is driving rapid expansion of in data infrastructures, including hyperscale data centers and data center campuses, fossil fuel power plants, and transmission lines. Data centers consume vast amounts of water and power and are expected to cost Georgia residents $2.5 billion in tax breaks in 2027 alone. The Public Service Commission (PSC) recently approved Georgia Power's request for 10GW of additional natural gas power generation, despite data centers only having made 3GW worth of power commitments. In fact, Georgia Power's demand estimates only have a 1 in 500 chance of realizing, almost guaranteeing that Georgia residents will bear the cost of power expansions via rate increases down the road. Adding insult to injury, long-term job creation is limited at best and one of the major AI companies driving data center expansion says a white-collar Great Recession is not off the table. Recent research suggests that data centers create miles-wide heat islands and emit dangerous levels of infrasound, sound waves that fall below the range of human hearing but have a broad range of health impacts. Research on potential health and environmental effects is often overlooked, begging the question: What other harms of data center development will we discover after it's too late?16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by April Biagioni
