Paul Ryan is out of bounds
Paul Ryan should not be allowed to silence the prophetic voice of the House Chaplain. By firing Chaplain Conroy, a Jesuit who correctly reminds House members of their responsibility to balance tax policies so all, rich and poor, can benefit, Speaker Ryan has forgotten that all faith traditions prioritize the poor and vulnerable. Ryan should be censured for this act of dictatorship and a Congressional oversight process should ensue to assure the Chaplain a fair opportunity to understand the threat against him and respond accordingly. Congress needs prophetic voices now more than ever.
Why is this important?
I have long experience in faith-based advocacy, which despite misrepresentation, is not partisan but is political as elected leaders need to be reminded that priority for the poor and vulnerable is at the core of all faith traditions.
