Petition to Improve Pediatric Healthcare Access for Prattville Families

Petition to Bring Specialized Pediatric Healthcare Closer to Prattville, Alabama

We, the undersigned residents of Prattville, Autauga County, Elmore County, and surrounding communities, respectfully ask our local and state leaders, along with healthcare organizations, to prioritize expanding access to specialized pediatric healthcare in our region.

Today, families in Prattville who need specialized pediatric emergency care often have no choice but to travel approximately 90 minutes to Birmingham to receive treatment at Children's of Alabama. While Montgomery has Baptist East Hospital, it is a general hospital serving patients of all ages and is not a dedicated children's hospital with the full range of pediatric specialists and services that many children require.

When a child is seriously ill or injured, every minute matters. Long travel times create unnecessary stress for families, delay access to specialized treatment, and place an additional burden on parents during some of the most frightening moments of their lives.

Prattville and the surrounding communities continue to experience significant growth, and our healthcare infrastructure should grow with us. Families deserve timely access to high-quality pediatric emergency and specialty care closer to home.

We respectfully ask our leaders to:

  • Work with Children's of Alabama and other healthcare providers to explore expanding pediatric services closer to Prattville.
  • Study the need for a dedicated pediatric emergency department, children's hospital campus, or comprehensive pediatric specialty center serving the Prattville region.
  • Pursue state funding, grants, and public-private partnerships that would make expanded pediatric healthcare possible.
  • Make improved access to pediatric healthcare a priority for the rapidly growing families of Central Alabama.
This petition is not about replacing existing hospitals. It is about ensuring that children have faster access to specialized care when they need it most.

Our children deserve better. Our families deserve better. Our community deserves better.

By signing below, we ask our elected officials and healthcare leaders to take meaningful action to improve pediatric healthcare access for the families of Prattville and surrounding communities.

Why is this important?

Every child deserves timely access to specialized medical care, regardless of where they live. Families in Prattville and the surrounding communities should not have to travel approximately 90 minutes to Birmingham during a medical emergency to reach a dedicated children's hospital.

While Montgomery has a hospital that treats children, it is not a specialized children's hospital and its emergency department is often overcrowded. When a child is seriously ill or injured, long travel times and extended waits can add unnecessary stress to families and delay access to pediatric specialists.

Our community continues to grow rapidly, yet access to specialized pediatric healthcare has not kept pace. Expanding pediatric services closer to Prattville would improve access to lifesaving care, reduce the burden on families, and provide peace of mind to parents who simply want the best care possible for their children.

This petition is about advocating for the health and well-being of the children in our community. Every family deserves the reassurance of knowing that expert pediatric care is available closer to home when it matters most.
