URGENT: Widespread Voter ID confusion in Pennsylvania
Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele and Gov. Tom Corbett: Hold an emergency press conference right now to remind all Pennsylvania election officials and voters that no ID Is required to cast a ballot, AND extend voting hours so any voters who were turned away can go back and cast their votes.
Why is this important?
Reports have surfaced of serious confusion about the enforcement of the voter ID law across Pennsylvania. Signs that incorrectly state that identification is required have apparently been posted at all of Crawford County’s polling sites. In Butler County, people at the polls have been announcing to voters standing in line that they need photo ID to vote. That is just not true!
The state's top election officials must take immediate action to make sure this is not happening in Butler County or anywhere else in Pennsylvania.
This is another in a series of voter suppression actions by the Pennsylvania Republicans, who spent months trying to pass a discriminatory Voter ID law in Pennsylvania to deliver the state to Mitt Romney. After a lengthy court battle and tons of public pressure, the judge hearing the case issued an injunction preventing the law from being implemented for this election. Yet even after the ruling, the Department of State continued to run misleading television advertisements and mailed flyers to voters at home falsely implying Pennsylvania voters need to a show a photo ID in order to vote--potentially frightening thousands of voters from going to the polls.
