Please Pass Bills Protecting Homeowners in HOAs
Hawaii law provides that the RICO office will assist homeowners whose Association is acting illegally. But the RICO office has interpreted this to mean only for condo owners. These bills clarify that RICO will also help low income housing and planned community owners whose associations are acting illegally. SB2252, SB2253, HB2619, HB2620.
Why is this important?
Most people do not have the $5000 to $30,000 that is required in legal bills to take on their homeowner's association when it acts illegally. That is why the RICO office was tasked with insuring that HOAs acted legally. Oddly, RICO has excluded planned communities and low income communities from being helped. These bills clarify the original intent of the law.
