War Eagle Bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP Ref #85003497, added 11/19/1985). The undersigned request Benton County, Arkansas to maintain the historic integrity of the area by keeping the War Eagle Bridge in its original condition and bringing the bridge up to sufficient standards of safety to allow single lane traffic to continue crossing the bridge as it presently does.
The War Eagle Area is historically and economically significant to northwest Arkansas. Closing the bridge to traffic and/or changing/moving the road would damage the attraction of the area and have a negative impact upon the people who live there, as well as, damage the War Eagle Fair, the Sharp Show, and the daily ongoing business of War Eagle Mill.
Why is this important?
War Eagle Bridge is one of the most Historic landmarks in Arkansas. It brings people from all over the world, and it has year round traffic. If they close this bridge it will affect so much more than the local area and economy. Huge events like Bikes Blues and BBQ use this bridge as one of the attractions for motorcycle riders that come from all over in the fall. It is an economic staple but also a gorgeous piece of history that should be maintained at all costs.
