President Obama: Please declare Standing Rock a National Monument
Dear President Obama,
We are all profoundly grateful the Army Corps of Engineers has denied permit for the Dakota Access Pipeline. We also know that decision can be changed at a later date. There needs to be finality and reparation. It is time for you to declare Standing Rock a National Monument.
Please make your last weeks in the Oval Office historic displays of social justice and compassionate leadership. Show the world you embody the honor bestowed upon you as the winner of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, when you said in your acceptance speech: “I receive this honor with deep gratitude and great humility. It is an award that speaks to our highest aspirations -- that for all the cruelty and hardship of our world, we are not mere prisoners of fate. Our actions matter, and can bend history in the direction of justice.”
Show us, Mr. President. Bend some history. NOW.
In hopeful anticipation,

Why is this important?
Because time is of the essence, and President Obama can make reparations to Native Americans and change the course of history before he leaves office.
