President Obama, we believe that you have the right and duty to nominate the next Supreme Court justice no matter how long it takes the Senate to approve them, and that this right persists beyond the end of your term. We urge you to claim that right and to ask the Supreme Court to rule on this issue. Do not allow the Senate Republicans to steal this important part of your legacy without a fight.

I truly believe that the right and duty to nominate a Supreme Court justice belongs to the person who is president at the time the vacancy occurs, and that the Senate's reprehensible tactic to steal this right from President Obama cannot be allowed to succeed.
