Prevent Destruction of Oregon Forests: AN URGENT MATTER

We, the undersigned citizens of Oregon:

Formally request the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) to develop and implement new Oregon Forest Act regulations to support a forest health focused plan for all private industrial lands in Oregon.

All commercial harvest on private and ODF administered lands that are within community watersheds will be immediately curtailed until an alternate, environmentally sound plan is developed.

All commercial activities must maintain and protect a forest structure that will result in long term watershed as well as economic benefit. Enforcement of the revised plan will prevent invasive impacts while restoring damaged ecosystems.

Why is this important?

Currently, there are projects in mind to log massive amounts of Oregon's temperate rainforests this year. If these projects ensue, the forests that we know and love in Oregon will be permanently altered. The surrounding lands, which include residential lands, will be affected. Most waterways will be impacted. The mountainous headwaters where most of the logging will occur will be irreparably damaged: THE TREES PROTECT OUR WATER SOURCE! Not to mention the toxicity that will follow from an inability to flush out the chemical herbicides required by state rules to be sprayed on all cut lands! Erosion! Death of already endangered animal and plant species!

So, do you want clean fresh air and water that Oregon is prized and known for? Do you want your children's children to know and appreciate the wildlife that we do right now? Do you still want to see these mountains, intact and as they stand now, for years to come? Do you want your children and relations to exist and grow healthfully?
