To: The Louisiana State House, The Louisiana State Senate, and Governor John Bel Edwards

Prevent Isolation - Promote Independence - Support LATAN!

We, the undersigned, ask that the Louisiana House of Representatives and Senate attach an amendment to HB1 that provides funding for the Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network (LATAN) for the 2012-2013 fiscal year, and that Governor Jindal retain this funding request when he signs the bill into law as LATAN meets the governor's criteria as set forth for non-governmental organizations.

LATAN provides assistive technology services statewide, and is the sole source for these services in Louisiana.

LATAN provides services to people of all ages, with all types of disabilities, service-related injuries, and limitations due to aging.

LATAN provides opportunities for people to try out devices before purchase and to have access to previously owned devices, thereby saving scarce resources for public and private funding.

Devices available for trial include those for vision, hearing, dexterity, computer access, mobility, recreation, and leisure.

LATAN assists people in becoming educated and employed, in living where they want to live, and in being involved in community activities.

Why is this important?

For 20 years, LATAN has provided assistive technology services statewide to people of all ages, with all types of disabilities, service-related injuries, and limitations due to aging, and has been the sole source for these services in Louisiana.

Without continued state appropriations to supplement federal AT Act Grant funding, LATAN's ability to continue to provide these services is in serious jeopardy.
