To: President Donald Trump, The North Carolina State House, The North Carolina State Senate, Governor Roy Cooper, The United States House of Representatives, and The United States Senate

Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution: Call it the Congressional Reform Act...

1. Senators serve terms of six years each; the terms are staggered so that approximately one-third of the seats are up for election every two years. After a total of twelve years the Senator must retire from service.
Or term limit like the President should be considered.

2. Two years is the length of a term in the US House of Representatives. After a total of twelve years the Congressman must retire from service.
Or term limit like the President should be considered.

3. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

4. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

5. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan (401K, IRA or Roth IRA), just as all Americans do.

6. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. Congress can purchase/pay their own health care plan, just as all Americans do.

9. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/14.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

Why is this important?

It is time to make changes in the way the federal government ignores the American people. We are the boss.
