To: The Maine State House and The Maine State Senate

Protect Maine homeowners, override the Governor's veto of LD 145.

LD 145 is meant to protect homeowners from being wrongfully foreclosed on. Losing one's home is a terrible thing to face. Compared to this, the burden of a mortgage company having to prove they have the legal right to foreclose on a property is a small one.

The Legislature would seem to have agreed with this; and in their capacity as a co-equal branch of government, should stand up for the people of Maine. We urge you to maintain your conviction on this matter and to do what you believe is right for those you represent.

Why is this important?

The intent of LD 145 is to prevent mortgage companies from foreclosing on properties they may not own. It was passed with bipartisan support in both the Maine House and Senate. It then went to the Governor, who chose to veto it.

We are asking the Legislature to stand up for the People of Maine, and to override the Governor's veto of this bill.
