Billionaires and extreme politicians are trying to dismantle the Department of Education and defund our public schools through harmful voucher scams like the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA). If they succeed, millions of students—especially those from low-income families, in rural communities, students with disabilities, and English language learners—will lose funding for their public schools and access to the quality education they deserve.

Public schools are the foundation of our democracy, ensuring that every child—no matter their zip code, race, or background—has the opportunity to learn and thrive. Defunding public education only benefits private interests while leaving our communities behind. We cannot let this happen.

The Trump administration is illegally shifting agencies within the Department of Education that oversee billions in support for our public schools, especially our most vulnerable students, to other departments with zero education expertise.
On November 18th, Trump made further moves to dismantle the Department of Education, illegally moving key agencies to other Departments with no approval from Congress. The Dept of Ed plays a key role in providing a quality public education to students in our country who have been historically underserved - low income students, students with disabilities, and students of color. We need to do everything we can to stop the Trump administration from dismantling this department, weakening support for students, and gutting funding for our public education system.
