Plastic bags are a leading source of trash in Narragansett Bay and along Rhode Island's coast. Nothing we use for just five minutes should pollute the Bay for future generations. I support the Cimini/Nesselbush bill (H5403/S404) to ban disposable plastic checkout bags in Rhode Island.
Why is this important?
Rhode Island uses hundreds of millions of disposable plastic grocery bags every year, and too many of them end up in the Bay—where they can remain for generations, threatening wildlife and littering our state's most treasured places.
Nothing we use for five minutes should pollute the Bay for our children and grandchildren. Luckily, banning disposable plastic grocery bags is a simple, effective policy to eliminate this source of pollution. In the Ocean State, we should lead on this issue.
