Narragansett Bay is critical to Rhode Island's economy and way of life. Unfortunately, too many cesspools still pollute the Bay with bacteria and nitrogen, causing fish kills, beach closings, and more.
The General Assembly should be applauded on its work to protect the environment this year, but there is one job left to get done: Please support a phaseout of cesspools in Rhode Island.
Why is this important?
Rhode Island's legislative session ends this week. Environmentalists have already won exciting victories to expand solar energy, implement first steps of a state composting program, fund public transportation, and more.
However, there are some final bills that need final approval. One of them is a critical bill to protect Narragansett Bay by finally phasing out cesspools, an outdated septic method that pollutes the environment.
